Some knots are meant to last forever.

At Story of Knots, we believe that every knot tied with intention carries a story — of craft, of culture, and of the hands that shaped it. We are a sustainable, handcrafted macramé studio rooted in Gurgaon, India, creating pieces that bring warmth, texture, and soul into your home. From wall hangings and dream catchers to bags, shelves, and beyond, each creation is inspired by classic forms, earthy tones, and the timeless tradition of macramé art.

Where it all began.

It started with two friends. Shailesh and Umang first crossed paths in 2013, bonded over a shared love for design during their undergraduate years. Over the years, they travelled, explored different countries, gathered experiences, and quietly nurtured a dream. In 2020, they finally took the leap — and Story of Knots was born.

Today, they continue to push each other creatively, drawing from their design backgrounds and a deep respect for handcraft to build something that is far more than a business.

Craft with a purpose.

Story of Knots is built on the belief that beautiful things should do good in the world. We actively work to empower women in rural India by creating meaningful employment opportunities and generating sustainable livelihoods — because every piece you bring home carries their skill, their time, and their story.

What is macramé?

Macramé is an ancient textile art that uses knots — and nothing but knots — to create intricate, sculptural pieces. No looms, no needles. Just hands, cord, and patience. At Story of Knots, we are committed to keeping this rich tradition alive and sharing it with the world, one knot at a time
